The Backlog Check-in Vol. 23: 6/9/18: E3 Edition

I've paid very little attention to what, if anything, has gone on so far, but I'll be checking out the Sony conference.

Has anyone heard anything exciting? Please pass it along.

Played this week: Final Fantasy III and God of War

Finished this week: nothing

Added to backlog: nothing

Current backlog: 38 (12 PS4, 11 Vita, 7 PS2, 5 3DS, 2 PS3)

Nothing new for me... still doing late-game stuff in God of War and moving along in FFIII.

The MS conference yesterday was decent, they showed a ton of games. Ubisoft is in 6 mins and Sony later tonight - I'll be in the theater again for Sony!

Have you seen anything that really has you excited?

I just saw this...

Very cool but it still seems like this is a game that's far away.

From Ubi:
- BG&E 2 trailer was great
- Skull & Bones trailers were good, could be interesting
- Ass Creed - I heard it was taking place around 100 AD, which is not close to where they are in 400 BC...looks cool though
- No Splinter Cell, could be at Sony's conference since it was supposed to make an appearance if rumors are to be believed

From MS:
- Shadow of the Tomb Raider looks enjoyable
- Haven't played a Fallout game, but Fallout 76 might be a good place to start

Games added: ESO: Summerset, Vampyr, Onrush

Last week: Finished nothing, played Arkham Asylum, Onrush

This week: The same plus some ESO w/ Tam

So, E3.

The MS show had a few really good reveals, all of them multi-plat of course. Highlights for me were:

Dying Light 2:

The first game was a blast, but on top of that the dev has supported that game for over 2 years with regular free updates (and one paid update that was massive & well worth the price).

Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition:

Finally!!!!!! :D

Devil May Cry 5:

I've seen lots of complaining, but looks great to me.

Cyberpunk 2077:

Amazing.

The Bethesda show might have been my favorite so far, and that's with me being seriously on the fence about Fallout 76:

Rage 2:

I loved the first, and this one is going full open-world & has gotten a major style upgrade. I'm in, day 1.

Wolfenstein Youngblood:

Very cool looking DLC for Wolfenstein 2 (I think it's DLC - might be stand alone tho)

Doom Eternal:

More of the best FPS in ages? Yes, please.

Fallout 76:

This could be the best thing ever or a major miss, and it really depends on one piece of information that I haven't heard yet: is it possible to create a "closed" game where only the people I invite can play w/ me? Because if I'm forced to play with random ppl, this game looks like a griefer's paradise. :(

Nothing really from Square's show that we hadn't seen before besides a teaser to a new Platinum Games game. Ubi Soft had a couple of things:

Assassin's Creed Odyssey:

Oh yes. Origins' gameplay tweaked a little and set in ancient Greece. There is nothing about that sentence that is bad.

Beyond Good & Evil 2:

Like cane said, this game still looks a ways off - esp. since the gameplay was described as "pre alpha" and they talked a lot about people being able to submit artwork, music, etc. for use in the game through some program. Still, this trailer actually made me interested in the game which is saying something given my track record with the first one. ;)

Sony's show was weirdly paced, but they had some incredible games to show. The highlights for me were:

Ghost of Tsushima:

Quite possibly the game of E3 for me so far. Just absolutely incredible.

Spider-Man:

Really glad this one is so close, it looks like an absolute blast to play.

Death Stranding:

I'm still not really sure what's going on here, but it's gorgeous and very intriguing.

Control:

VERY interesting new game from Remedy. Will be keeping an eye on this one.

I personally had zero interest in their lesbian torture porn aka Last of Us 2. :?

Outside of the big conferences, this announcement caught my attention:

Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise:

All I need to say here is that this is from the Yakzua team.

Yeah, the Ghost of Tsushima gameplay trailer was awesome. And TLOU Part II looked amazing, very brutal though.

Thanks for the all those videos, argyle. I missed most of that.

I didn't need to see anything to know I want Ghost of Tsushima on day one (Sucker Punch fan that I am), but I peeked at that trailer and

I'm also not all that excited for TLOU 2, but the same was true of the first one, and when I finally got to it I enjoyed it.

Was there any word on Dreams? Psychonauts 2?

You're welcome. :)

Sony's show was weird - they had these in-between animated clips that said they were made using Dreams, but they didn't mention the game otherwise a single time during the show. Instead they showed a little on it post-show. Likewise, Days Gone was completely absent from the show.

Speaking of absentee games, the following are games I expected to hear *something* about but haven't:

Borderlands 3
Metroid Prime 4
Final Fantasy 7 (I suppose Square doesn't want to take attention away from Kingdom Hearts 3 right now, they're REALLY pushing that. It showed up in both MS & Sony's shows as well as their own.)
Biomutant
Dead Island 2 (If this is dead, no pun intended, they need to go ahead & say so.)
Whatever Rockstead is working on (Superman?)
