The Backlog Check-in Vol. 36: 9/8/18: Shadow of the Tomb Raider Edition

Post by jfissel »

Most likely getting lost in all of these Sept/Oct releases is Shadow of the Tomb Raider, which is probably going to be really good like the other 2 TR titles.

Finished: Nothing

Now Playing: Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age

Added to Backlog: Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age

Current Backlog: 30 games

Games added: Dragon Quest XI, Spider-Man

Last week: Finished nothing, played DQXI, Spider-Man

This week: Same

I still haven't played the last TR game, so this one is definitely a wait for me. Good thing too, because I'm good on new games right now. ;) Both DQXI and Spidy are excellent. I'm focussing on Spidy right now, but that's mainly because it's shorter (and I'll probably trade it in as soon as I finish it & a good trade promo hits).

Played last week: Stardew Valley, No Man's Sky

Finished: nothing

Added to backlog: nothing

Current backlog: 35 (13 PS4, 9 Vita, 6 3DS/2DS, 5 PS2)

Same as last week for me... a lot of Stardew Valley and a little bit of NMS. Doing a lot of this, of course:

Glad to hear great things about Spidey and DQ.

Played: Inside, Limbo

Finished: Limbo

Playing: Inside

I'm still playing Inside here and there, and enjoying it when I do. I haven't been feeling too well lately so I haven't been in the mood to play video games a lot.

Considering that Tomb Raider and Rise of the Tomb Raider are a couple of my favorite games, Shadow of the Tomb Raider is one of my most anticipated games of the year. However, as much as I would like to play it now I can wait to get it when it's cheaper.

I think that I'm done buying games for full price on day one since the last three that I did (Far Cry 5, God of War, Kingdom Come: Deliverance) weren't close to worth $60+ IMO. Very few games are IMO. Maybe a big epic RPG like Dragon Quest XI is, but for the most part I don't like paying more than $40 for games.

I finished Inside, and I enjoyed every minute of it. It had great atmosphere, fun platforming and clever puzzles. It's also one of the stranger games that I've played, it really got weird at the end. Unfortunately, the ending sucked. It just kind of ends, and isn't a satisfying conclusion. But overall I enjoyed my time with it.

9.5 hours into DQXI now. One thing I'm really loving - the enemy animations before, during, and after battle. It's been so long since I played VIII or IX that I can't remember if they had these.

What's up with a lot of games releasing on Friday instead of on Tuesday now? Games almost always released on Tuesday up until rather recently, now it seems like more and more games release on Friday. Despite me saying that I'm pretty much done buying games on day one for full price, I was tempted to buy Shadow of the Tomb Raider today only to discover that it doesn't come out until Friday.

This week has been really rough for me - we had to put Yuna, my 16 year old dog, to sleep on Monday. :(

That's rough argyle. Losing a loved one - human or otherwise - is always a blow. Sorry for your loss.
