The Backlog Check-in Vol. 42: 10/20/18: Red Dead Redemption II Edition

Post by Phaseknox »

Red Dead Redemption II comes out Friday for the PS4 and Xbox One, it's the long awaited sequel (prequel) to one of the best open world action adventure games ever. It's been in development for several years, and is Rockstar's first current gen game. It's expected to be the GOTY which is saying something considering how great of a year it's been for games.

Let's do this thing!

Image

Played last week: Stardew Valley

Finished: nothing

Added to backlog: nothing

Current backlog: 35 (13 PS4, 9 Vita, 6 3DS/2DS, 5 PS2)

Still wrapping up odds and ends in Stardew. I'll probably do what's necessary for 100%, maybe plat... really like this game.

I see you got the plat - congrats!

Games added: Soulcalibur VI, Starlink

Last week: Finished nothing, played AD Odyssey, Bloodstained Curse of the Moon, SC VI, Starlink

This week: Image

It's unfortunate that they tied Starlink to those toys. I discovered that the digital version doesn't require them at all, and without them it's basically "The Game What No Man's Sky Should Have Been". I suppose marketing might have had trouble with that, but yeah, that's exactly what the game is. And it's great. :)

Still playing Yakuza 0, although I honestly play OOTP more than anything else.

Want to get into RDR2, but I'll wait. Can't wait to hear you guys impressions.

Yep, thanks! Platinum #58 and this one only took me 101:44+final final boss fight (the time doesn't update after that fight for some reason). A month and a half of playing 14-15 hours each week. :o

1 Dragon Warrior IV
2 Dragon Quest VIII
3 Dragon Quest XI

4 Dragon Warrior VII
5 Dragon Quest V
6 Dragon Quest IX
7 Dragon Warrior III
8 Dragon Quest VI

9 Dragon Warrior I
10 Dragon Warrior II

I think I'm ok with the rankings above and the gaps between sections are intentional...so it's currently in 3rd place. But honestly, my favorite DQ is the one I'm playing at the moment. :P There were definitely a lot of things to like about XI - the story, the characters, the maps, the overall feel. Just a great game and currently in the running for my GOTY (competing with God of War and most likely Red Dead Redemption II).

I wonder how long I'm going to end up spending in Yakuza 0. I keep getting sidetracked doing random things and running into random events. I'll be playing for a long time at this rate. So fun though, and I'm really digging the narrative to this point.

btw cane, I just realized we're going to be enemies this weekend. :P How do you feel about this upcoming game? I'm not that confident. I think the Ravens D is going to really trouble the Panthers makeshift line that's been crushed by injuries. I'm hopeful, but not expecting a win. (And I think Harbaugh will out-scheme Rivera & co. sadly.) Then again, we're at home which usually helps.

So I know I'm the one who kinda said it to begin with, but I think I'm gonna be the one to bail on getting RDR2 day-1 (of those of us that had said we were). I just have too many games already started, and I've abandoned too many already this year. I'm sure it won't be too long tho - another part of my reasoning is that it's pretty likely there will be sales on it around BF next month and that's probably about the time I'll have some of this stuff finished up so I'll be ready for it.
