izzy, I had a similar experience with the one Ecco game I played (on PS2, I think?). The concept sounded cool and I love dolphins/oceans... but the gameplay was meh at best. As for FFI and II... I'd probably just do whatever tickles your fancy at the moment. But there's something to be said for going through all of them in order, to get a real clear picture of how things changed between each entry and how the series evolved (or devolved).
