Seeing how we all found different abilities to be most fun/useful is part of what makes Igavanias so fun imho. There's plenty of flexibility and it's just fun to play around with all the permutations. Personally I used Lightning Doll the most probably, even though I got it later in the game. I kept is as my primary even after beating it. It just looked so cool and had a big area of effect and a nice power to cost ratio.

And like cane mentioned, I really love that it's essentially a 2D action rpg, with a bigger rpg emphasis than might be expected.

I haven't had time to go back and play in a bit, but I'm still going to try and solve the last bit without a guide for a least a little while.

Oh: and I really enjoyed the Popeye arcade game back in the day. Memories...

I had to go out of town so didn't have time to play until I got back, but I finally finished up Aria. I did eventually look up what I was missing. (I needed the Succubus drop.) I also thought the books were usable items rather than hints on soul equips. (Doh!) I ended up with 77.1% soul completion and I think it was 95% castle completion. I had a great time with it overall. I was seriously over-leveled/equipped though. Even the true final boss fell like a chump, lol. I'm glad we all played it together. Hopefully we'll do it again sometime.

Agreed. This was the perfect choice for a game club game... cheap, available everywhere, short and accessible.

So apparently Saturday was Aria's 20th anniversary, and I found this interesting article about it:

"When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed
if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I
became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the
desire to be very grown up.” ― C.S. Lewis
