izzy, I had a similar experience with the one Ecco game I played (on PS2, I think?). The concept sounded cool and I love dolphins/oceans... but the gameplay was meh at best.

As for FFI and II... It's probably good my old brain is crumbling so I don't remember a lot of annoyances, but I truly enjoyed the OG when I first played it on NES (I still have the maps that came with it along with some I drew by hand), and I played I and II when they came out on PSP and had a great time with both. Again, can't recall much but I have a little happy fuzzy feeling when I think back. :P

Ok. I think I am done with FF2. I just don't want to play it anymore. It's a chore, man. I always feel like I am on the back foot which I am sure was the intention but it makes the game not fun. I don't like the random rotation of the 4th party member. I don't like grinding because leveling is weird. The magic system I like far less than FF1 which I didn't particularly enjoy. It's fun to see some staples of FF like Cid,, airships and chocobos be established but it's not enough to keep me invested. I am going to move on to FF3 and come back to 2 later or just let it go. I have it the old college try. And that I speak beaver thing will be one of the most memorable random FF moments. Oh and the overworld theme was solid. But that's it. Easily bottom tier FF here.
