The Backlog Check-In Vol. 459: 10/19/26: Final Fantasy Resonance Edition
Re: The Backlog Check-In Vol. 459: 10/19/26: Final Fantasy Resonance Edition
Games added: Nothing
Last week: Finished nothing; played Balatro, Adventures of Elliot, and Resident Evil 4 Remake
This week: More of those, focussing on RE4
Decided to make RE4 Remake my next spooky game for October. Really enjoying it so far, several hours in. I just got to the President's daughter (she's not the highlight of the game, I'm aware
). I don't remember enough about the original to really say what's been changed, other than the tank controls, obviously.

Re: The Backlog Check-In Vol. 459: 10/19/26: Final Fantasy Resonance Edition
Finished: Wolverine (platinum)
Now Playing: Ghost of Yotei: Echoes of Sekigahara DLC
Added to Backlog: Ghost of Yotei: Echoes of Sekigahara DLC
Current Backlog: 35 games
Finished up Wolverine and then bought/started the Ghost of Yotei DLC, which is great so far a couple hours in.
Wolverine Review: 8.5/10 for me, thought it was great overall. I am not in tune with all these comic book characters and everything about them, but this is an original story anyway. That being said, there are obviously a lot of characters and elements from the X-Men universe. It is NOT an X-Men game. As I said a few weeks ago - the graphics are fantastic, I thought the combat had enough moves to keep things fresh, and the story was solid (though a tad predictable at times). Because there are enough levels to get most, if not all, combat skills by the end of the game (sometimes you'll have more than enough options when you get to certain level thresholds that you won't buy all of the unlocked skills before the next threshold), more involved customization occurs with genetic enhancements (you ultimately choose 10 out of like 25) and costumes. The genetic enhancements are things like a bigger parrying window, recharging specials faster by meeting requirements (dodging, parrying, etc), or making collectibles easier to find. The costumes are varied and apparently call back to a lot of different X-Men eras and other games. Some are even from animated series/games, but I found those off-putting in the realistic environments. You can toggle the hood on/off for certain outfits as well. I probably used about 10 different ones, just choosing what I thought looked cool. Regarding the level design, there are some "hallways" but there are also some decently open areas as well. One of those open areas is Kabukicho, Japan, known as the inspiration for the setting of many games in the Yakuza series. Wolverine's rendition felt familiar with some recognizable landmarks and streets, though it is also different. Ultimately, a lot of the issues reviewers had or aspects of the game that they didn't like really didn't affect me much. I'm not saying they were wrong, I think I'm just a little more forgiving or those things didn't bother me...the reviews I read felt a bit harsh for whatever reason. I would recommend this game to anyone here, just be prepared for a decently brutal brawler action game.

Thanks for the word! Sounds like a pretty good time. I guess you didn't see Kazuma in the Kabukicho section?jfissel wrote: Tue Oct 20, 2026 4:57 pm Wolverine Review: 8.5/10 for me, thought it was great overall.
