Finished: Ghost of Yotei: Echoes of Sekigahara DLC
Now Playing: God of War Ragnarok - Valhalla DLC
Added to Backlog: Nothing
Current Backlog: 34 games
Finished up the Yotei DLC and was pretty impressed overall. Fun times getting back into that world, even if I died on boss fights way too many times. In the time before GTA VI, I decided to try out some other DLC I missed - first up is Valhalla for God of War: Ragnarok. Pretty sure I skipped it when it released because it's a roguelike and those aren't my favorite. But we shall see.

Re: The Backlog Check-In Vol. 461: 10/31/26: Halloween Edition
I'm towards the end of the 3rd regular season of my current OOTP league (1902). Have the best record in the league, but are struggling relative to last season. Going into 1902, my pitching staff underwent a pretty significant overhaul. I extended a qualifying offer to a top pitcher (1A or 1B, depending on how you look at it) and he rejected it, which I was hoping he would do actually. I got a 2nd round compensatory pick out of it (which turned out to be a really promising OFer.) I then signed last years Cy Young winner from the Indians who had become a free agent, and he's been lights out for us. I also traded another pitcher and had some injuries, but overall the starting staff has been excellent. My problem has been my bullpen which was dominant last year. My reliever of the year regressed and has been very inconsistent and there's been significant turnover there too. But being middle of the pack in your pen, means you're losing some close games you won last season, and the impact has been felt. I think we'll still end up as the 1 seed in the AL, but there's time for that to change, pending performance.
I also fired up Nightmare Creatures from the PS1. I had never played it, and it was kind of a nod to spooky season. I've played a couple levels and it's got a decent vibe, but the combat is really rote and not very engaging. I'll play some more and see if it's worth further investment before rendering a verdict and setting it aside.
I've sort of slipped into a gaming routine where I'm not really playing much new (to me). I hope to inject some fresh life into that stagnation soon. I've just got to decide what to play.

Last week: Finished RE4 Remake AND Mouthwashing (a rare 2-finished-games-week!
). Played Balatro, Crimson Desert, and Symphony of the Night.
This week: Same.
RE4 Remake was great overall. There were some annoyances, mainly the times you have to babysit Ashley, but overall it was a good time. I watched a YouTube video comparing Ashley from the original game to the new one (because I'm old and can't remember anything that far back), and they made huge improvements to her character. She's not nearly as whiny and annoying as she was. Or creepy. She had some creepy lines in the first one (and others had creepy lines directed towards her). I did kick it down to easy about halfway through. The easy was probably a touch TOO easy, but I still don't regret it because I was able to keep my sanity. There were some sections I played through and thought, "Yeah, if I hadn't turned the difficulty down, this would be an absolute nightmare." So yeah, I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoyed the original. Enough has been changed if you do remember it, and if you don't (like me), then it will all feel new.
Mouthwashing went up on Game Pass last week. I had just finished up RE4, and I was thinking I could squeeze one more spooky game in for the month. I checked the average completion time & saw it was only about 3 hours, so I went for it. It's basically a walking sim...a walking sim with a VERY dark story. It's purposely disjointed, jumping between different times and perspectives, with the occasional dream-hallucination sequence for good measure. By the end, it all makes sense, tho you may wish it didn't. Again, very dark, but also very good. Worth a playthrough, but once is enough for me.
Out of curiosity, I was looking at which games I was close to the new Mythic achievement in. My trophy/achievement chasing days are mostly gone, but I don't mind doing it for something I really love. On that note, I saw that I was one trophy away from the Mythic in Symphony of the Night. All I had to do was beat it with Richter - something I've never done in any version of the game. I'm happy to say I accomplished that last night.
I won't be doing that again either; it's not fun playing as Richter because it strips away all of the RPG elements, plus it's more difficult to get around as him. But I'm happy to say I've done it!
The Crimson Desert DLC has dropped, so I've started getting back into that. There are some adjustments just to the interface changes they've made since I stopped playing. It's insane how much they've tweaked and added to that game since launch, even outside of the DLC. And saying the DLC is substantial is an understatement - it adds a ton of new systems on top of a massive addition to the map. Just crazy. Have I mentioned that this is a lock for my GOTY? Just checking.

Welcome back, cane!
God of War Laufey was delayed to May. Probably for the best so I can focus on Stranger than Heaven, haha.

I really want to jump into that game, but I think I'm just going to wait for a complete edition with all the DLC, assuming such a thing will come to pass.argyle wrote: Wed Nov 04, 2026 3:56 pm The Crimson Desert DLC has dropped, so I've started getting back into that. Thanks! Some of my time away was spent in your state. Had to bring home some buckeye candies for the grandkids.
