The Backlog Check-in Vol. 339: 6/29/24: The First Descendant Edition

Post by Phaseknox »

Played: Alphadia, Miraculous: Rise of the Sphinx, Stray

Finished: Nothing

Playing: Stray

Added: Crystar, Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons, Hammerwatch II, Miraculous: Rise of the Sphinx, The Pathless, Protodroid Delta, Signalis, Stray, Syberia: The World Before

I’ve been playing Stray, and enjoying it. It’s somewhat different than I was expecting, but I still like it. It’s a third person dystopian sci-fi adventure where you play as a cat. Environment traversal such as jumping is automated with button prompts instead of a dedicated jump button, and there’s light exploration and puzzle solving at times. The graphics are really good, and the game in general is something different from what we usually get making it stand out of the crowd a bit.

Games releasing this week
Bleak Faith: Forsaken
Cozynauts
Cyber Citizen Shockman Zero
Dungeonborne
Fate Seeker II
Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail
The First Descendant
Kingdom, Dungeon, and Hero
The Legend of Heroes: Trails Through Daybreak
Offroad Mechanic Simulator
PowerWash Simulator - Alice’s Adventures
Scholar’s Mate
Zenless Zone Zero

I did it. I platinum'd Infinite Wealth and finished the Big Swell dlc. I will now after five full months, play another game on my PS4. I miss Infinite Wealth already but I need to move on

Played: Infinite Wealth, Battletoads :| , Nocturne, Hi Fi Rush

Beat: Infinite Wealth dlc

Bought: Bruh, I have 5 items in my Humble Bundle cart and nearly 20 in my Steam cart. I am also planning to buy all of Kingdom Hearts and Yakuza to play again on my Steam Deck. I cannot be allowed to do this right? We will see what I end up with the sales by the end of the week..

This week:...not Infinite Wealth. More Nocturne. More Hi Fi Rush. Something new on the PS4 (do I smell another game club in July...I think I do 🤔)

Microsoft: the ****? First, Battletoads is God awful. But you kept that studio. I had to stop playing it. We get it, the turbo tunnel was hard and sucked. Why do it again? With infinite continues? And invincibility? This is not a fun game.

But Hi Fi Rush is fun! And they closed that studio! Do y'all remember when I was dying for a PS2 game to scratch my itch last year? This is EXACTLY what I meant! The colors, licensed music, animation...hell it reminds me of Def Jam FFNY to be frank. Meaning it's just ****ing cool in spite of itself. This Chai loser blows but the game is just confident and executed so well, it doesn't matter. It's just cool. I love it. And Microsoft killed the studio because they hate me personally. Microsoft will pay...

Games added: Fantavision 202X, Inscryption, Hell Yeah! (all Steam sale)

Last week: Finished nothing, played...not much

This week: not sure, playing some Witcher 3 right now

Been trying out a lot, but still nothing's clicking. I've played a little Witcher 3 - yes, I finished it before, but I never played the Blood & Wine DLC. I fired up my PC copy & had a save about 20 hours in, so I'm playing from there. It's fun enough, but I don't know that it will hold my attention all the way through the base game so that I will even get to the DLC. Maybe?

Still have my eye on some other games in the Steam sale, we'll see if I pull the trigger on any of those.

BTW, for all my Steam brothers, Play-Asia is running a 5 for $10 sale on a huge list of Steam games. There are definitely duds in the list, and some that are cheaper in the current Steam sale. But I found 5 that look really good that were all much cheaper than their current Steam sale prices, so it's worth a look: https://www.play-asia.com/digital/steam ... 0000000000

Congrats! Fantastic game for sure!

Finished: Stellar Blade (platinum #94)

Now Playing: Windbound, undecided

Added to Backlog: Nothing

Current Backlog: 43 games

I will be picking up the PowerWash Simulator DLC this week! After that, it's anyone's guess - I need to look and see what I have, lol.

I never thought that I would live to see the day that this place was taken over by the PC Master Race, but here we are. :P

Did you know about it before seeing it listed in this thread? I would like to think that the game release lists that I post each week are somewhat helpful in letting you all know what’s coming out just in case there’s games that you might be interested in.

Ha, you guys are funny. Of course, to *me*, it's (PC) the best place to play, but the term "best" is really meaningless and entirely personal. But in the current configuration of the gaming landscape, I don't see how I can lose. I've been primarily PC for I guess 5 years or more now, but it's only gotten more entrenched as time passes. In the end I just want to play good games in the way that suits me, and that is most certainly not on console anymore. But I'm all about *games* first. The hardware - console / PC / whatever - is secondary.

Huh, sounds awesome. I might have to give that one a try.

Played recently: Death's Door

Finished: nothing

Added to backlog: nothing

Current backlog: 37

I'm really enjoying Death's Door. It's kind of a mashup of Soulslike and Metroidvania. I've had trouble with some of the combat areas, not much room for error, but I've gotten through everything so far, which is very satisfying. Can't wait to get back to it.

I finished Stray, and enjoyed it overall. It was somewhat different from what I was expecting, but I still liked it. It’s primarily a third person narrative adventure game with some light exploration, escape sequences, stealth and puzzles. But a lot of it is traversing environments with button prompt jumping, and interacting with NPCs. It took me 10 hours which was about the right length for it, and I got a little emotional at the end. But the ending itself could have been better considering all that you go through to reach it. I think that most of you would like it, especially if you like cats.

I did know about it last week, but I also find your lists to be informative!

I thought it was great! Got all trophies except for the speed run and not getting caught on the first escape section. Definitely a different type of game that I usually enjoy.
