The Backlog Check-in Vol. 150: 11/14/20: Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity Edition

Post by argyle »

Games added: oh boy...let's see. Dirt 5, Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin, Void Bastards, Skully, Giraffe and Annika, The Soujourn, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Launch Edition (w/ code for remastered Spider-Man), Godfall (digital), SoulCalibur VI (digital), Dark Souls III, We Happy Few, Fade to Silence, Ni no Kuni Remastered, Samurai Showdown (b3g2 GS sale)

Last week: Finished Maneater (all achievements), played Spider-Man, Watch Dogs Legion, Godfall, dabbled with a few others

This week: Lots I'm interested in playing more of, not sure what my main focus will be tho. As much as I want to start Yakuza, I think I'm gonna dive back into FF7 Remake.

Maneater is awesome. It's a lower budget game and it has some technical problems (crashed several times on me, but it auto saves frequently so I never lost any progress). But it's just a ton of fun. A shark RPG, that's just a genius idea - surprised no one thought of it before. And having Chris Parnell (SNL alum, Cyril from Archer, Jerry from Rick & Morty, Dr. Spaceman from 30 Rock...) was just absolutely perfect. His deadpan delivery was perfect, there were a ton of laugh-out-loud lines. Highly recommended.

Tam and I played some Godfall last night and had a blast with it. It's a very pretty fantasy hack'n'slash/looter. Fun single player, but even better co-op.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity comes out Friday.

Finished: Nothing

Now Playing: Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Astro's Playroom, Spider-Man: Miles Morales

Added to Backlog: Assassin's Creed: Valhalla, LEGO Harry Potter Collection, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Astro's Playroom, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Bugsnax

Current Backlog: 40 games

Still early in Yakuza, have only played PS5 since Friday. Astro's Playroom is a fun little game showcasing all of the new tech and features of the PS5. Started Miles Morales yesterday and it's very pretty...remembering the fun times I had with Spider-Man earlier this year. The PS5 is gigantic, of course, but everything has been great so far. The controller with it's haptic feedback is really something else - I hope we see some more cool stuff with this in coming games.

I love Adventure Pals so much. One of the only avatars I have bought on PSN is from that game, and it's the one I'm using now. Sooooo good!

 ...so I bought one game...

Played: Yakuza 7 (I ain't typing Like a Dragon all the time, deal :P ), DQ11S Demi

Finished: DQ11S Demo (looking forward to that!...even if the demo prize kinda sucked)

Bought: Yakuza 7

This week: Yakuza 7

I did it! I resisted the siren call of a Kingdom Hearts game! I didn't know if I could, but I did it. Also, still holding out on Miles...

In other news, my wife took all of her frustrations in trying to get a PS5 on launch day out on me and it was hilarious  ! She was perplexed and gobsmacked by the whole process even though I explained that I don't need one right away. She wanted to know why they do it this way so I explained to her also I don't know because I don't but systems until way, way after release. I think she still resents me a bit for her travails last Thursday.

Phase:

-Metagal kinda sucks. Like a lot. I have a platinum that took maybe 20 minutes to get. I did not enjoy it.

-Looking forward to Monster Boy thoughts. I keep waffling on if I want to bother because the Wonder/Monster Boy Remake is fine but I don't really see myself finishing it even though I like it. It's too old school, wondering if the new one modernized a bit more

-Bounced off Iconoclasts and Swords of Ditto too. Feel like I am missing something in both.

Hope you get well soon sir and can get back to gaming like you like to do!

Played recently: Ghost of Tsushima, Velocity 2X, SteamWorld Dig 2

Finished: SteamWorld Dig 2, Velocity 2X

Added to backlog: nothing

Current backlog: 35 (15 PS4, 8 Vita, 7 3DS/DS, 5 PS2)

Yep, finished two games this week. Dig 2 is excellent, maybe the best thing I've played on 3DS. Velocity is also great, but I did have some frustrations at the end unlocking levels so I could finish up. Both highly recommended if you haven't played them.

I'm also still having a blast with Ghost. It's possible I'll finish this week.

Edit: Also, as you can see below, I fired up The Swapper to see if it would grab me. It didn't. Nor did a few others I checked out on 3DS and Vita (Grand Kingdom, La Mulana, Mario Tennis, etc.).

Glad to see you enjoyed Steamworld Dig 2 so much, it's an awesome game.

I *really* enjoyed the demo for Grand Kingdom and have been meaning to get to the game for years now...maybe one day?

I bounced off a few things this week before maybe-kinda settling on Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. I did order Valhalla Monday because of a deal I came across, as well as Watch Dogs Legion being one of the things I bounced off of that also made me realize that Valhalla is what I was in the mood to play. So I may transition to it when it comes in the mail (supposedly Friday) but we'll see, I may stick with Jedi also.

I'm unpredictable like that.

I know, that's why I bought it. I'm surprised that you didn't mention Yoku's Island Express as well, because that's another game that I bought based on your love for it.

In that case, I'm glad that I only paid $1.99 for it.

Oh, I missed that one or I definitely would have! Another tragically overlooked game, a ton of creativity in that one.

Hopefully I’ll start feeling a little better soon so that I can actually start playing the games that I’ve been buying. :P
