I'm almost finished with DQ8. I really didn't know what to expect after all this time. It was a revelation to me back in the day, really opened up my gaming horizons. I loved looking back on it as one of my favorite games of all time but didn't know if it would hold up after I've played so many other DQs and other JRPGs. Very happy to report it's even better than I remembered. Easily my favorite DQ and favorite turn-based RPG.

You're going to make me do it aren't you?! I've got my obligations to crim (gamer's club with Ecco The Dolphin) as well as my OOTP obsession to contend with, but maybe I'll finally get to it this year. It could be the game that ensures my ongoing streak of playing at least one PS2 game yearly since launch continues.canedaddy wrote: ↑Mon Mar 03, 2025 10:09 am I'm almost finished with DQ8. I spent most of the week playing Out of the Park Baseball. I've finally finished all the setup work (or at least all I'm going to do), and finally entered the 112 round inaugural draft. (got to fill the major and minor league rosters). First thing I did after the draft was fire my scout and hire a good one. It cost me a lot (of 1961 dollars, ha - that's the year I decided to begin my league), but player evaluation is crucial in this game, just like in real world sports, and I just couldn't rely on ongoing suspect player evals. I'm already over budget and I've got a parsimonious curmudgeon of an owner who expects results without offering resources, so I'm sure I'll enjoy when the team is sold or he kicks the bucket, ha. If I want to create any room for roster adjustments (resigning good players or getting free agents), I'll likely have to sacrifice some of the payroll in some uneven trades. I've already set the trade difficulty to very hard, so it's going to be a steep (and fun) hill to climb in order to build this team over the years. Looking forward to struggle and glory and those beautiful contrasting dynamics that flavor the whole idea of competitive sport.
I also went back to Neurovoider for a bit. It's a fun game, but it's not one of the better twin-sticks I've played for a few reasons that I'll probably share if the universe continues to support the idea of me reviewing all my games.
I've also played a couple hours of McPixel 3 and it's good dumb fun, as advertised. It's not something I'm overly jazzed about, but it serves its purpose.

Dragon kick your a$$ into the Milky Way!

High praise. I really need to play it again.canedaddy wrote: ↑Mon Mar 03, 2025 10:09 am I'm almost finished with DQ8. I really didn't know what to expect after all this time. Finished: Nothing
Now Playing: Ace Attorney Trilogy, Pirate Yakuza
Added to Backlog: Pirate Yakuza
Current Backlog: 42 games
Being a pirate in the Yakuza world is pretty cool. I am now in a city running around doing a ton of side stuff, but looking to get back on the high seas again with better crew and weapons!

Games added: Forgot to opt out of last month's Humble Bundle, but I've had my eye on Trepang 2 anyway so it's fine.
Last week: Finished nothing, played Cyberpunk and a LOT of Balatro.
This week: Same.
Balatro is digital crack. Very hard to put down.
I want Suikoden II, but I know I won't play it right away so I'll probably hold off for now. Next new release I'm getting is Xenoblade at the end of the month - I can't wait for that one. Clearing my plate for it now.

When you do, you might want to shell out for the 3DS version. It has a lot of additions (two playable characters, two new sets of collectibles, new weapons/gear, postgame stuff, etc.).
I did finish it last night... right after dropping my beloved ol' Logitech Wireless PS2 controller and breaking it.

Aside from that tragedy, it ended beautifully.
No idea what I will play next. Haven't even turned on the PS4 in a while.

Hey. I live! Hope all's well. I have had no time and have really only been playing Ballatro (which is fine. Mindless but fine) and Vampire Survivors (again, mindless). I miss games, y'all...
