The Backlog Check-in Vol. 430: 3/28/26: Spring Break Edition
Re: The Backlog Check-in Vol. 430: 3/28/26: Spring Break Edition
Ah, spring break... I remember those.
Played recently: Horizon: Forbidden West
Finished: nothing
Added to backlog: nothing
Still killing robo-dinos and exploring cool places (yay!) and talking to weirdoes (boo!) in the Forbidden West. Nothing new to report there.
However, I did make a significant gaming hardware purchase: Got me a PlayStation Portal! My wife's work has a health app that gives you reward points, and I had a whole bunch saved up. When I heard the price was going up, I cashed in and got one. I suspect I'll use it a lot when my wife is watching her murder shows and such.

Oh, wow that's neat. Give us a review after you spend some time with it.canedaddy wrote: ↑Mon Mar 30, 2026 10:33 am However, I did make a significant gaming hardware purchase: Got me a PlayStation Portal! Re: The Backlog Check-in Vol. 430: 3/28/26: Spring Break Edition
Hey all, March was a stupidly busy month!
Spring break is happening for me in less than three hours!
Additionally, I have news: my super sweet, thoughtful and ridiculously hot wife bought me a 32 inch gaming monitor for our bedroom. Therefore, between today and tomorrow I will finally be hooking up the PS5 I got for Father's Day last year! The babies have daycare all next week so I will have TIME to play things! The plan is currently:
Spider-Man 2 then Ratchet and Clank then Astro Bot (which came with my system) during spring break with Pirate Yakuza to round things out and be my game for the rest of April. Then I can finally do the second part of FF7 and FF16 starting this summer...that should all do me for a good long minute. I know a bunch of stuff I bought came with PS5 upgrades and the monthly free games and I already am going to play Spidey 2 and R&C on the PS Plus game catalog. Any suggestions? I can't really think of anything else I want to rush to play...
Hope all is well!

That's a lot of games in a short amount of time! Horizon Forbidden West has a PS5-only DLC if that interests you. Ghost of Yotei and Stellar Blade are 2 PS5-only games that I have (well, Stellar Blade is also on PC).crimson_tide wrote: ↑Wed Apr 01, 2026 10:50 am Hey all, March was a stupidly busy month!

And LEGO Harry Potter Years 1-4 has been platinum'd!

Outstanding! That's an ambitious slate... would take me many months. My favorite PS5 games so far have been Astro's Playroom and Astro Bot (both of which came with my system).crimson_tide wrote: ↑Wed Apr 01, 2026 10:50 am Additionally, I have news: my super sweet, thoughtful and ridiculously hot wife bought me a 32 inch gaming monitor for our bedroom. Re: The Backlog Check-in Vol. 430: 3/28/26: Spring Break Edition
Games added: Gundam Breaker 4, Bye Sweet Carole (both PS5), Balatro (switch - finally picked up a physical copy) - all of that for $6 new
Last week: Finished nothing, played Crimson Desert
This week: Crimson Desert
Crimson Desert is amazing. It's a giant open-world fantasy sandbox with just enough of a plot to get you going. I spend most of my time exploring the incredibly vast map and suplexing baddies to their demise. There's a crazy amount of stuff to do, but again, the main draw is the exploration. The world is fun to just wander in and see what you find. Takes the best parts of several games - the 2 most recent Zeldas (the climbing & puzzles) & Dragon's Dogma 2 (general feel) are the two that immediately come to mind. The dev has also been super responsize to the community, issue fast patches that address the minor issues people have had with it - mostly quality of life stuff. I'm happy to say that this one is fully living up to the hype.
